Applying for exchange

So you've decided you want to apply for a semester-based exchange!

Before you start the application process make sure you have confirmed that you are eligible and know where you want to go.

If you are having difficulty at any stage of the application process, please contact an Internships and Global Experiences Coordinator for help. Do not contact your host institution directly as all enquiries must be made through Global Experiences until you are formally accepted.

4. Gather Course Profiles

Course profiles are required for nearly all credit assessments for exchange. A course profile gives you the key information about a course. At UQ, it outlines the course aims and learning objectives, required textbooks, assessment criteria and due dates, and other important information.

Course profiles required in a global experience application are those from the host university. Course profiles can look very different depending on the host university.

IMPORTANT:  Do not contact the host university directly until after the Internships and Global Experiences Team has allocated you a Host University and given you permission to contact the host.

After you have been allocated a host university, you will be required to provide supporting documents, including the host course profiles.

When to gather course profiles
Students are required to provide full host university course profiles when:

  • you are seeking compulsory or discipline elective credit and there is no credit precedent.
  • you are seeking compulsory or discipline elective credit and the credit precedent has expired or will expire before the end of your planned exchange semester.
  • you are seeking general elective credit, but the discipline of the host course matches disciplines within your UQ program (e.g. you want to take an international business course, and your UQ program is within business).

If all the courses on your study plan have a valid (not expired) Credit Precedent Database ID, upload a Word document stating this fact in the required field (Course Profiles upload) in the Document submission form.

If any of your host university course profiles are in a language other than English, you must provide a translation of each course profile in your submission.

Course profile content
Course profiles should include:

  • aims and objectives of the course;
  • number of contact hours per week;
  • teaching content / weekly breakdown of topics:
  • reference material;
  • assessment; and
  • credit value.

If the host university does not publish full course profiles, the global experiences team will provide you instructions of how you can access them once you have been allocated a host.

Submission Format
Course profiles should remain in their original format as much as possible, either:

  • original PDF downloaded from host webpage, or
  • a “print to PDF” version of the webpage information. See instructions on how to print to PDF

If the course profiles are in a language other than English, an English translation must be included with the original for ease of assessment.

When submitting your supporting documents, individual course profiles should be uploaded in one .zip file. See instructions on how to create a .ZIP file
