Applying for exchange

So you've decided you want to apply for a semester-based exchange!

Before you start the application process make sure you have confirmed that you are eligible and know where you want to go.

If you are having difficulty at any stage of the application process, please contact an Internships and Global Experiences Coordinator for help. Do not contact your host institution directly as all enquiries must be made through Global Experiences until you are formally accepted.

Applications for Semester 1 2022 exchange are now open!

All applications will be assessed on a conditional basis. Final decisions will be made by mid-September dependent on international travel restrictions.

The health and safety of our students is a top priority, and this approach allows us to start planning these exciting opportunities whilst maintaining the flexibility to adjust our plans if government health regulations and/or travel restrictions change.

Whilst it might be tempting to start making additional plans, you must not make any bookings or apply for visas until your application is confirmed as successful. The University will be monitoring the COVID-19 situation closely in the lead up to making a final decision.

UQ travel insurance cover for approved UQ travel has not changed. If your Exchange / Global Experience is cancelled or adjusted, and you need to cancel or change booked travel arrangements as a result (eg flights or accommodation), the UQ travel insurance policy will not respond to travel cancellation and disruption claims relating to or resulting from COVID-19 for travel arranged on or after 4pm (AEDT) on 2 March 2020. If you are able to undertake your Exchange / Global Experience, UQ travel insurance cover for medical and medical evacuation expenses is subject to full policy terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions.

UQ travellers must exercise due diligence in planning and undertaking approved UQ travel. Failure to exercise due diligence could mean that cover is not available for medical expenses incurred as a result. For more information refer to UQ Travel FAQs.

1. Complete a progression check

Progression checks (or program planners) allow students to self-check the courses they have already completed, and those remaining in their UQ program.

Make sure you are aware of the course requirements of your UQ program before completing the progression check/program planner.

Important: Going on exchange in your final semester may delay your graduation date.
