Nanyang Technological University Short-term Summer Program

The NTU Short Term Summer Program opens up fascinating Asian cultural experiences and opportunities and at the same time equips you with key entrepreneurial skills for a venture into Asia.

NTU offer multiple "tracks" for students to choose from. More information on these tracks are listed under the Courses tab.

Credit equivalent 

3 AUs = 2 UQ Units. Maximum of 4 UQ Units after successful completion of experience (pending UQ faculty approval).

It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct visa for the country where you will be studying. As the Global Experiences team is not a visa-issuing authority we cannot provide visa advice.

Eligibility and application

All applicants must meet the UQ short-term experience eligibility criteria and the NTU entry requirements

This program impacts on UQ semester 2 dates (except the Venturing into Entrepreneurship course). UQ students must meet the additional special conditions for programs that impact teaching dates.

Applicants must apply to the Internships and Global Experiences team by 24 March 2024 to be considered for this experience. 

Successful applicants will be nominated to Nanyang Technological University by UQ by 31st of March. Selected students will receive the application link via email from NTU GEM Trailblazer Summer Team after this, and will be required to submit an online registration to the University.

Courses & Program Dates: 

Tracks offered by NTU vary in length. Please review the avaliable coursework  and course syllabus for start and end dates of your chosen course.

Students may enrol in up to 2 courses within one track, or across different tracks, however please reveiw course timetables to ensure class times do not clash. 

Track 1 - Language and Cultural Studies
An introduction to basic Chinese and Malay language skills, helping students discover the fascinating and intriguing lifestyles in Asia.

Track 2 - Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Offered by the Nanyang Technopreneurship Centre (NTC), learn fundamental entrepreneurship competencies, business acumen and stamina to build and grow businesses. Students can take both ET5131 and ET5132.

Track 3 - Creative Design and Media
Through this series, it encourages students to come up with original creative works and design. Students will be able to explore various genres and find their voice through various writing, editing, painting and new media productions.

Track 4 - Success in the Globalised Marketplace
To compete in today’s marketplace, one has to possess many traits and skills from cultural intelligence to negotiation skills, strategic management and marketing communications. Students will have a range of business and humanities courses to choose from in this track.

Track 5 - New Technologies, New World
Get tech-savvy with this track and dip into the world of 3D printing, bioprinting and their applications in the real world.

Costs

The participation mode of this experience is Exchange. The tuition fee is paid directly to UQ.

Students are responsible for costs associated with the exchange which will include approx. $174 AUD for registration fee and $1,046 AUD admin fee. Students will also be responsible of accommodation, travel and living expenses.

Funding

New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant

Two weeks in Singapore: Eligible students are guaranteed a New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant valued at $3,000 AUD when participating in this experience. (26 June 2024 - 13 Jul 2024 or 10 July - 27 Jul 2024)

Four weeks in Singapore: Eligible students are guaranteed a New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant valued at $3,500 AUD when participating in this experience. (26 June 2024 to 27 Jul 2024)

Note: NCP funding is based on the total time of the experience.

When you submit your application to the Internships and Global Experiences team, you are automatically considered. There is no additional application required. Applicants will need to submit supporting documentation (host acceptance, bank details) by the relevant deadline.

When you submit your application for an experience, you are automatically considered for funding that is relevant to your nominated experience. Please refer to the Short-Term Experiences Funding  page for details.

If you participate in a short-term program you may also be eligible to submit an application for an OS-HELP loan if your program is for-credit and you are enrolled as a Commonwealth supported student.

Global Experiences Information Sessions

Students are encouraged to register and attend an information session to receive more details on the short-term application process, eligibility criteria, funding etc.
