So you've decided you want to apply for a short-term study experience!
Before you start the application, it is important to review the following information to help you understand how a global study experience can connect to your studies, what your best experience options may be, and how to prepare an application!
6. Apply to the Host
Your application with the Internships and Global Experiences Team (IGET) is separate to your application to the host of your nominated short-term global experience. It is your responsibility to research the application process, deadlines and fees for your nominated host. If you have any questions, you can contact the host directly for further information.
IGET has no control over whether your application to the host will be approved, and approval by IGET does not guarantee approval by the host. Many short-term global experiences are competitive, popular, have limited places, and hosts usually allocate these places on a rolling basis.
Key considerations before applying to the host:
- IGET recommends that you allow sufficient time to have your application assessed by IGET, and credit approved by your Faculty (if requested) before the host deadline.
- For-credit students should wait until their credit has been assessed by their Faculty before applying to the host. If your host deadline is approaching and you will not have your application approval (including credit approval) by the deadline, you may need to submit your application to the host before your application is confirmed.
- IGET does not recommend making any financial commitments to your host or toward your experience until after your application is approved by IGET and your credit is approved by Faculty.
- If you apply directly to hosts before support for your application is confirmed by IGET, you are doing so at your own risk.
Apply early
Credit assessments can take 4 - 6 weeks to be completed so you should apply as early as possible.
Many hosts will require a non-refundable deposit to be paid to secure your place in the program (often paid within 10 - 30 days of notification). IGET is unable to expedite your credit assessment if your host deadline is approaching.
Students should take these timeframes into consideration when applying to participate in a short-term global experience.
