There are a number of different opportunities to be involved in virtual internship opportunities during the summer and winter breaks. Below are details on the providers that have been approved as Student Employability Centre (SEC) Internship opportunities, and details on the opportunities they offer.

Who are International Internships?

International Internships have been facilitating in-country and online internships for over 15 years, but we are always growing and changing as the environments in which we work grow and change. We work with individual students, as well as educational institutions, commercial organisations and NGOs, to facilitate internships, study intensives, immersion and unit-based programs, along with providing career mentoring, professional skills development, cross-cultural communication and language training.

What can I participate in?

Virtual Mobility programs by International Internships offer amazing opportunities to work remotely with an Indonesian organisation, providing experience that puts your skills into practice and can give you a solid edge in the employment market.

International Internships have a range of 6 weeks international internships from a number of fields including:

  • Arts
  • Business
  • Education
  • Engineering
  • Health
  • International Studies
  • Law

Costs & Inclusions

AUD $2,450 is the program fee for UQ students. This program fee includes:

  • Minimum 25 hours per week of remote work-based experience for 6 weeks
  • Tailored internships – our consultants work with you to arrange an internship to suit your skills, studies and career aspirations
  • Cultural activities like dance classes, batik workshops, guided virtual tourism visits, movie and book night discussions, interactive Indonesian cooking classes and more…
  • Language lessons, including Indonesian workplace culture and remote working skills
  • Professional seminars with experts from industry-relevant organisations (government bodies, NGOs, commercial organisations and local universities)
  • Virtual networking opportunities to encourage you to develop your people-to-people relationships and build your own professional network
  • Career growth and development workshops to help with your CV, interview techniques and online professional profiles
  • Support from the International Internships team throughout (video/phone/email/text) including scheduled catch-ups providing direction, assistance, support and advice


When you submit an internship application, you are automatically considered for either:

(1) New Colombo Plan (NCP) Mobility Funding of AUD $2,000. To be considered for the New Colombo Plan Mobility Funding, you must meet the funding criteria. This includes approval from your faculty to receive credit for your experience, which must be confirmed no later than 8 November 2020.

(2) Virtual Short-term Experiences Grant of AUD $750. To be considered you must have uploaded your Host Organisation Acceptance Letter no later than 8 November 2020.

There is no additional application required.

If you have already submitted an application for the Employability Grant for your internship, you will receive an email to advise that your application will be withdrawn and that you may be considered for one of the above grants instead. Please note that you cannot receive two types of funding for the same experience.

Grants are limited and may be awarded by a selection committee on the basis of:

  • academic merit
  • academic progression as provided at the time of application
  • in consideration of other scholarships awarded to the student
  • applicants will be considered for only one grant from the Student Employability Centre per application round

This grant is not guaranteed even if all selection criteria are met.

Students who are due to graduate at the end of semester 2, 2020 will not be eligible for the Virtual Short-Term Experiences grant.


To participate in a International Internships Virtual Mobility program, you must;

1. Be actively enrolled into a UQ program and courses*,
2. Not due to graduate at the end of the semester of application*,
3. Have a minimum GPA of 4 and a record of steady academic achievement, and
4. Meet all other criteria as outlined by the host organisation.

*Due to the evolving situation of COVID-19, students may be considered for participation in this program if they are not currently enrolled. Students who are due to graduate at the end of semester 2, 2020 are also eligible to apply, although they may be ineligible for UQ Insurance while undertaking their internship. These exceptions are for this round of applications only.

Credit for Internships

Some students may be able to receive credit towards their UQ program pending faculty approval. The Student Employability team is unable to provide further advice regarding internships for credit.
