Who are International Studies Abroad (ISA)?

Our mission is to ignite personal growth through a wide range of affordable education abroad opportunities with a commitment to exceptional support for all participants and their institutions. Since 1987, ISA has facilitated cultural discovery and learning for over 100,000 students.

ISA Internships are tailored to deliver an internship placement that is unique to your goals while preparing you for your future career. You will have access to our state-of-the-art career readiness training and assessments, one-on-one coaching, and hands-on support to ensure you gain the crucial skills employers are seeking while engaging with the local culture and growing in your international aptitude.

For students who want to gain international experience without leaving home, Global Remote Internships provide students with the unique opportunity to gain practical 21st century skills, industry, connections, and international business experience through project-based learning in a remote setting.

What can I participate in?

Global Remote Internships are available in wide variety of locations throughout Spain. Spanish language is not required, however students with Spanish skills may have a more advanced internship opportunity. During the placement process, interns are matched with an international host organization that aligns with their professional goals.

Costs & Inclusions

USD $1,750 (approx. AUD $2,420 is the program fee for UQ students. This program fee includes:

  • Intentional Program Structure - In order to provide a structured program in which all participants are ensured a successful program, ISA has intentionally created a variety of check points and planned activities which keep the interns engaged. In addition to regular check ins with their site supervisor, each intern will also receive a weekly check in from ISA staff to confirm that the placement is proceeding as expected.
  • Custom-matched internship placements - During the application process, you will undertake a personal advising session to ensure we understand your goals for the internship. We will also provide resume advice and interview preparation. We then use the information gathered during that advising session as well as your application to identify the right organizational match
  • Personal Career Coaching
    • Ongoing advising/coaching before, during and after your internship to assist you with any challenges and support your learning journey
    • Optional post-program Career Coaching session
  • Professional Development Toolbox
    • Career coaching
      • Individualized advising sessions to cover resume and cover letter improvements as well as interview techniques
      • Ongoing advising/coaching before, during and after your internship to assist you with any challenges and support your learning journey

      • Earns a digital badge for LinkedIn
  • Cross-Cultural Toolkit - This is designed specifically for our remote interns. While you may not be physically in the host country, you still have daily interactions with colleagues coming from a variety of backgrounds. We want to encourage that interaction and aid in your intercultural competence as you progress through the remote internship. This toolkit includes our Virtual Orientation, Cultural Engagement emails and activities, and coffee catch ups.


When you submit an internship application, you are automatically considered for a AUD $750 grant supporting short-term internship participants.

To be considered you must have uploaded your Host Organisation Acceptance Letter by 8 November 2020.

There is no additional application required.

If you have already submitted an application for the Employability Grant for your internship, you will receive an email to advise that your application will be withdrawn and that you will be automatically considered for the short-term internship grant instead. Please note that you cannot receive two types of funding for the same experience.

Grants are limited and may be awarded by a selection committee on the basis of:

  • academic merit
  • academic progression as provided at the time of application
  • in consideration of other scholarships awarded to the student
  • applicants will be considered for only one grant from the Student Employability Centre per application round

This grant is not guaranteed even if all selection criteria are met.

Students who are due to graduate at the end of semester 2, 2020 will not be eligible for this grant.


To participate in a ISA Global Remote Internships in Spain, you must;

1. Be actively enrolled into a UQ program and courses*,
2. Not due to graduate at the end of the semester of application*,
3. Have a minimum GPA of 4 and a record of steady academic achievement, and
4. Meet all other criteria as outlined by the host organisation.

*Due to the evolving situation of COVID-19, students may be considered for participation in this program if they are not currently enrolled. Students who are due to graduate at the end of semester 2, 2020 are also eligible to apply, although they may be ineligible for UQ Insurance while undertaking their internship. These exceptions are for this round of applications only.

Credit for Internships

Some students may be able to receive credit towards their UQ program pending faculty approval. The Student Employability team is unable to provide further advice regarding internships for credit.
