To participate in a short-term global experience, you must meet a number of eligibility criteria.

If you do not meet the eligibility criteria below for a Short Term Global Experience in Summer 2020/21 because of the current COVID-19 pandemic, please contact the Global Experiences Team at

Make sure you meet the eligibility criteria before applying for a short-term global experience.

To be eligible to participate in a short-term global experience you must:

  • select an experience from the supported experiences list
  • be enrolled and taking classes in a degree program at UQ
  • have completed at least six (6) units at UQ in your current UQ program
  • have a minimum cumulative GPA of 4.0, as shown on your UQ studies report
  • have at least two (2) UQ units remaining in your current UQ program

International students

Not allowed to return to home country

Students studying at UQ on a temporary residency visa, such as an international student visa or provisional Business Innovation and Investment visa (subclass 188), are not permitted to participate in an experience in their home country. The only exception to this is for internships.

Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa

The Temporary Graduate visa is for international students who have recently graduated from an Australian institution. Be aware that your participation in a short-term global experience may impact your eligibility to meet the Australian study requirement.
