The Vietnamese Language & Culture program is a four-week intensive program for students to undertake introductory language and culture in Ho Chi Minh City. 

Travel alongside students from Griffith University and Queensland University of Technology on the Brisbane University Vietnamese Language and Culture consortium program, hosted by Authentica. The program includes 40 hours of Vietnamese language instruction, cultural immersion workshops, a visit to the Australian Consulate, Cu Chi Tunnels and Mekong Delta.

Credit Equivalent

2 UQ units. Maximum of 2 UQ units if the Vietnamese Language & Culture program is successfully completed (pending UQ Faculty approval).

Eligibility and application

All applicants must meet the UQ short-term experience eligibility criteria

If you are intending to undertake your experience for-credit, it is strongly recommended that you submit your application to the Global Experiences team at least 4 weeks before applying to the host to allow sufficient time for faculty to complete the credit assessment. Please note however that it is your responsibility to meet the host application deadline.

Cost

The participation mode of this experience is Study Abroad, meaning you pay tuition directly to the host. The program fee is $3,980 AUD, which includes tuition, field trips and cultural activities and twin-shared accommodation. Single room accommodation is available for an additional $1,200 AUD. 

Students must pay a 50% non-refundable program deposit by 22 April to secure their place in this program.

Accommodation 

The Vietnamese Language & Culture Program includes shared hotel accommodation (private rooms can be organised for an additional fee). More information regarding accommodation options will be available soon. 

Funding

New Colombo Plan Mobility Program Funding

Eligible students can receive a New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant valued at $4,000 AUD when participating in this experience.

When you submit your application for an experience, you are automatically considered for funding. There is no additional application required. 

Global Experiences Grants

When you submit your application for an experience, you are automatically considered for funding that is relevant to your nominated experience. Please refer to the Short-Term Experiences Funding page for details. 

OS-HELP Loan

You may also be eligible to submit an application for an OS-HELP loan if your program is for-credit and you are enrolled as a Commonwealth-supported student.

If you participate in a short-term program you may also be eligible to submit an application for an OS-HELP loan if your program is for-credit and you are enrolled as a Commonwealth supported student. 

Application Deadlines

OS-HELP loan applications open on 5 January each year.

OS-HELP loan applications can’t be accepted:

  • any earlier than 6 months before the official start date of your overseas study
  • any later than 3 months before the official end date of your overseas study.
