Applying for exchange

Important notice: There is a new application process to help guide you through applying for semester-based exchange.

Semester-based exchange requires early planning, with applications typically opening around one year before you plan to go overseas. Allowing yourself time to explore options and prepare means you’ll be better placed to meet deadlines and plan your degree effectively.

Whether you’re ready to apply or just starting to explore exchange, the first step is to register your interest through the Global Experiences Dashboard in Student Hub. This gives you access to tailored information and guided steps specific to a semester-based exchange.

What happens when you register your interest

Once you register your interest for a semester-based exchange, you’ll be guided through a structured workflow that helps you:

  • Understand eligibility requirements for exchange
  • Check how an exchange fits within your UQ program, including conducting a progression check
  • Explore host university options
  • Prepare key information and documents needed to apply

Registering your interest does not commit you to applying. It’s a way to understand the process and decide whether a semester-based exchange is right for you.

Applying for exchange through Student Hub

When exchange applications are open, you’ll be able to progress from exploration to application directly within Student Hub. This will include:

  • Submitting an application to UQ
  • Uploading required supporting documents
  • Receiving guidance on next steps if your application progresses

Your Student Hub workflow will show you exactly what to do and when, at each stage of the exchange process.

Ready to get started?

If applications are not yet open, you can still register to explore what’s involved and return to apply once the relevant round opens.
