Tips for getting started

VMock scores your resume out of 100 and provides feedback across 3 key areas.

1. Impact

How clearly you communicate your experience and achievements.

  • Use strong action verbs to start each bullet.
  • Include measurable outcomes and the value of your contributions.

2. Presentation

How clean, consistent and easy‑to‑read your resume looks.

  • Keep formatting simple and aligned.
  • Avoid switching fonts or using overly designed templates.
  • Small formatting tweaks can significantly improve your score.

3. Competencies

The transferable skills employers look for – communication, leadership, initiative, problem‑solving and more.

  • Highlight skills gained through coursework, work experience, volunteering, internships or extracurriculars.

Don’t worry if your first score is low – strong resumes take refinement. Use VMock’s suggestions, make edits and re‑upload. You have 10 total submissions, so use each one purposefully.

Improving your score

VMock gives you instant feedback, but improvement takes some time. Expect to spend 2 – 3 focused hours making adjustments to reach the green zone (80+).
