VID is a private, specialised university college with value-based and ecclesiastical foundations. VID conducts education and research in health and social care, pedagogy, leadership, diaconia and theology. Research at VID maintains a high international level, and their work focuses particularly on social inequality and people in vulnerable situations.

The letters in VID are a Norwegian acronym for Specialized (Vitenskapelig), International (Internasjonal) and diaconal (diakonial).

Campuses

Exchange students are only permitted to study at the Oslo campus.

For full degree student, VID has 6 Campuses: Oslo, Bergen, Tromso, Stravanger, Helgeland, and Sandvika.

Application for Exchange in UQ Semester 1:
Open: 24 April (for Semester 1 of the following year)
Close: 31 May (for Semester 1 of the following year)

Close: 31 October (for Semester 2 of the following year)

Full-time study load

30 ECTS credits per semester at VID is equivalent to 8 UQ units.

Host university requirements

GPA
You will need a minimum cumulative GPA of 4.5 to study at VID.

Study Options
You are nominated as either the Nursing stream or Social Work stream. You must be studying one of these degrees at UQ and take the courses as outlined by your UQ school.

Semester Restrictions
VID Nursing is only available to nursing students for Fall Semester (UQ Semester 2).
VID Social Work is only available to social work students for Fall Semester (UQ Semester 2) or Spring Semester (UQ Semester 1)

You must still check the host university course catalogue to see if courses from the Credit Precedent Database are still on offer and in the correct semester of your exchange.

Accommodation

Students have the option of applying for accomodation on campus or outside of campus. Students can apply for housing on campus by using Diakonhjemmet's online service.

Please note that on-campus house is a service of Diakonhjemmet housing agency, not the university. Please consult with the housing agency regarding prices and availability.

Cost of living

Living in Norway can be quite expensive, however, can be affordable to students. VID provides an estimate of expenses while studying in Oslo.

Financial support

A range of funding for student exchange including scholarships, grants and loans are available to UQ students.  

Insurance

Students approved to participate in a Semester-based Exchange are automatically covered by UQ’s Travel Insurance for the country of their host university only.

If you plan to travel outside of your host country, you should purchase additional insurance.

All international students must have valid health insurance while in Norway. Students may be entitled to a voluntary membership in the National Insurance Scheme. VID provides information for international students looking to organise their health insurance.

Organise your visa

It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct visa for the country where you will be studying. As the Global Experiences team is not a visa-issuing authority we cannot provide visa advice.

VID provides residency permit and immigration information for incoming exchange students.

Travel risk levels

The University of Queensland cannot and does not allow students to travel to any country with a risk level of 3 (Reconsider your need to travel) or above, as assessed by the Australian Government.

If a country's risk level changes to 3 or above, experiences to that country are suspended until the risk level improves.
