Politecnico di Milano is a scientific-technological university which trains engineers, architects and industrial designers. The university was inaugurated in 1863 and has always focused on the quality and innovation of its teaching and research. Today the drive to internationalisation sees PoliMi take part in the European and world network of leading technical universities, and currently holds the title of the best university in Italy.

Milan is well-known as a hub for designers, artists, photographers and models. It has an ancient city centre full of interesting buildings and palazzos.

Full-time study load

28 ECTS credits per semester at PoliMi is equivalent to 8 UQ units.

Host university requirements

GPA
You will need a minimum cumulative GPA of 4.5 to study at PoliMi.

Language 
Students wishing to study in mainstream courses taught in Italian must have a B2 level of proficiency in Italian before applying to PoliMi.

Study Options
Not applicable to this university. However, you will usually be expected to take the majority of courses (60%) within a single faculty.

Politecnico di Milano has a number of university residence halls across each campus to which students may apply.

Cost of living

The cost of living while studying in Milan will ultimately depend on your expectations and lifestyle. It is recommended to evaluate a budget prior to commencing your exchange, considering usual expenses, initial fees and even emergency costs. 

Financial support

A range of funding for student exchange including scholarships, grants and loans are available to UQ students.  

Insurance

Students approved to participate in a Semester-based Exchange are automatically covered by UQ’s Travel Insurance for the country of their host university only.

If you plan to travel outside of your host country, you should purchase additional insurance.

Please note that for non-EU students it is compulsory to hold health insurance (page currently offline) in order to apply for the residence permit.

Travel risk levels

The University of Queensland cannot and does not allow students to travel to any country with a risk level of 3 (Reconsider your need to travel) or above, as assessed by the Australian Government.

If a country's risk level changes to 3 or above, experiences to that country are suspended until the risk level improves.
