Founded in 1886, Ewha Womans University is Korea's first pioneering educational institution for women. As a comprehensive university located in central Seoul, Ewha has 14 colleges and 15 graduate schools comprised of more than 70 majors.

Full-time study load

Undergraduate: 15 credits per semester at Ewha Womans is equivalent to 8 UQ units.
Postgraduate: 9-12 credits per semester at Ewha Womans is equivalent to 8 UQ units. (depending on faculty and study areas)

Host university requirements

GPA
You will need a minimum cumulative GPA of 5.0 to study at Ewha Womans.

Language
Students who wish to study in Korean are strongly recommended to have language ability at a B2 level.

Not applicable to this university. You can choose courses from any of the faculties at Ewha which are open to exchange students, however, there are numerous course restrictions outlined below.

Approximately 30% of courses are taught in English, depending on majors.

Accommodation

The I-House (on-campus dormitory) at Ewha Womans provides students an opportunity to experience various cultures with students from diverse backgrounds. The buildings are equipped with common rooms, and facilities for academic, recreational, and cultural activities.

Financial support

A range of funding for student exchange including scholarships, grants and loans are available to UQ students.  

Korean Government Scholarships
Students may be able to receive scholarship funding through the Korean government. Study in Korea has information on eligibility and application processes.

Hyun Family Korea Scholarship 
Enables undergraduate students studying Korean who have an interest in journalism, media and/or communications to participate in semester-long exchange programs in South Korea. Read the Hyun Family Korea Scholarship page for full details including the eligibility criteria.

Insurance

Students approved to participate in a Semester-based Exchange are automatically covered by UQ’s Travel Insurance for the country of their host university only.

If you plan to travel outside of your host country, you should purchase additional insurance.

Students at Ewha Women's must have a valid health insurance plan. If one is already in place your home institution, this will be sufficient, however, proof (an official letter) must be provided.

It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct visa for the country where you will be studying. As the Global Experiences team is not a visa-issuing authority we cannot provide visa advice.

Travel risk levels

The University of Queensland cannot and does not allow students to travel to any country with a risk level of 3 (Reconsider your need to travel) or above, as assessed by the Australian Government.

If a country's risk level changes to 3 or above, experiences to that country are suspended until the risk level improves.
