When you submit your short-term global experience application you are automatically considered for the following grants.

Short-term funding is awarded by a selection committee on the basis of academic merit, and academic progression as provided at the time of application, and in consideration of other scholarships awarded to the student for participation in a global experience.

Notification

Please do not rely on this funding to support your global experience. Decisions regarding funding from UQ will not be made until after many hosts will require you to pay a non-refundable fees. Applicants will be notified if they are eligible for travel grants and scholarships awarded by the Global Experiences Team approximately at the following times:

  • Summer Application Round: late-October
  • Winter Application Round: mid-May

If you participate in a short-term program you may also be eligible to submit an application for an OS-HELP loan if your program is for-credit and you are enrolled as a Commonwealth supported student

Short-Term Travel Grant

When you submit a short-term global experience application, you are automatically considered for a $1000 Short-Term travel grant. Travel Grants are not guaranteed. 

There is no additional application required. 

We offer $1,000 Short-Term Travel Grants to support short-term global experience participants. Grants are limited and awarded by a selection committee on the basis of:

  • financial hardship 
  • academic merit
  • academic progression as provided at the time of application
  • in consideration of other scholarships awarded to the student 

New Colombo Plan Mobility Funding

The New Colombo Plan Mobility Funding, provided by the Australian Government, subsidises the cost of participating in for-credit short-term experiences within the Indo-Pacific region.

If you meet the eligibility requirements for New Colombo Plan Mobility Funding, you will be automatically considered and do not need to apply. 

Funding for supported destinations changes every year.

Grants are limited and awarded by a selection committee on the basis of:

  • academic merit

  • academic progression as provided at the time of application

  • in consideration of other scholarships awarded to the student

Eligibility

To be eligible for this funding you must be:

  • An Australian citizen. Students cannot receive a Grant to undertake a Mobility Project in a Host Location in which they have dual citizenship or residency rights.

  • Have been successfully accepted by The Global Experiences Team and the Host University. 

  • Approved to receive credit for your short-term experience. 

  • Studying at an undergraduate level.

  • Have not previously received a New Colombo Plan Short-Term Mobility Grant.

If you submit a short-term global experience application by the appropriate deadline you will be automatically considered for this funding.
