Important travel advice

Students planning international travel should regularly monitor DFAT Smartraveller and the UQ Latest Travel Updates website.

UQ strongly recommends that students do not travel to, or transit through, locations rated “Do not travel” or “Reconsider your need to travel”, due to security risks, disruption and insurance limitations. 

Where a destination remains approved, but a student chooses to transit via such locations against advice, UQ support and insurance apply only to the approved experience and destination, not to the student’s travel routing. 

Students are responsible for reviewing flight routes and keeping their travel details up to date.

UQ supports a range of global leadership and engagement opportunities, including conferences, summits, study tours, and other international programs that support personal and professional growth. Participating in these experiences allows students to develop cross-cultural communication capabilities, expand their global networks, and gain insights into international issues and innovation.

Westpac Australia-Asia Fellowship
The Westpac Australia-Asia Fellowship is a new, world-class, immersive leadership experience open to high-potential students who have already completed a learning abroad program in the Asia-Pacific.

Fellows will take part in a 9-month leadership development program, where they will gain the skills, confidence, and connections to make a real impact

Global Peace Summit
Humanitarian Affairs Asia, 'Global Peace Summit - A Milestone Gathering at the United Nations' is a summit bringing together young leaders, changemakers, and peace advocates from around the world centred on promoting global peace and sustainable development.

The 6th Global Peace Summit will be held January 20–23, 2027 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand.

UN Immersion Program
The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) multilateralism training programmes are designed to help participants understand how the United Nations works in practice. They provide clear guidance on UN structures, decision-making processes, and current global priorities. Participants develop practical skills in negotiation, diplomacy, communication, and collaboration in diverse international settings.

UNITAR Immersion Program is offered in-person or virtually (E-Learning Course) at the following cities and UN offices: United Nations Headquarters in Geneva, United Nations Peace Palace in The Hague, United Nations Headquarters in New York, and United Nations UNOV office at Vienna.
