Luke - LSE Summer School: Session 2

Bachelor of Advanced Finance and Economics
July 2018

Why did you decide to complete a short term experience?

I decided to complete a short term experience for many reasons. Among one of them was for credit transfer obviously. However this was not the overruling decision. LSE is a renown university and very much attracted me to the experience despite a hefty price to pay. LSE being in the centre of London also drew me in and overall, I thought this was not just going to be beneficial to my career, but thought it would be a great experience to be overseas in the city of London.

How has the experience changed you?

I gained a lot of friendships from people of many backgrounds and cultures. I learnt how diverse people were and what their upbringings were in comparison to mine. Academically, I experienced what differentiated a university like UQ from LSE and overall I learnt quite a bit academically, from the experience.

Favourite memory

My favourite memory from the trip was probably meeting a group of guys from Melbourne in the morning, going out with them in the afternoon and then at night just roaming around London together. The people made the experience memorable.

Top tips

I overcompensated on how much money I needed for London. I ended up having a 250 pound a day budget by the halfway point. I found that expenses like food can be very easily controlled and lowered and that once you have covered flights and living expenses, your spending budget doesn't need to be absurd to have a good time in London.

Funding

I received the OS help loan (full amount, $6667) as well as a travel grant from UQ ($1000).
