It broadened my horizons, igniting the possibility of pursuing a career in a different country someday. Additionally, proficiency in languages is a valuable asset, and mastering German has undoubtedly unlocked numerous opportunities in the future.
Advice/Top Tips
Research your location, the university's history, and Europe in general before you leave. You don't want to return home regretting missing out on anything. It's a remarkable experience, so make the most of it by familiarising yourself with the history of the places you visit and ensuring you explore everything you're passionate about. Additionally, joining online groups is an excellent way to stay engaged in local activities and meet new friends. I found several soccer groups to play with, which not only helped me stay fit but also enabled me to meet new friends.
Highlight
I stayed with some family friends in Krefeld, northern Germany, before my university semester began. To reach Munich, I embarked on a 750 km bike ride with nothing pre-booked, carrying all my gear—including my tent, food, water supply, and cooking utensils—in bags on the back of my bike, following a route I searched up on Kamoot. This adventure stands out as the most thrilling, nerve-wracking, and unforgettable experience of my exchange. As a delightful bonus, I was awarded a 300 Euro prize for choosing one of the greenest methods of travel to Munich!
