1. 12 Days of Brissy Summer
The university year is coming to a close and the students are rejoicing! Once exams are finished turn off your Netflix and enjoy Brisbane’s brilliant summer weather. Below is a list of things to see and do to mix up the summer break.
- Hit the beach – This is the most obvious thing to do but did you know Brisbane has its own beaches? If you can’t make it to the coast, why not go local? Throw those uni blues away and visit a beach close to home – Discover more
- Love getting out and about? – Brisbane has some great bushwalks close by and in surrounding areas waiting to be explored – Find a few of the best here
- Get sporty – Are you a lover of tennis? Watch the stars battle it out at the Brisbane International this December/January – find out more
- Enjoy a sneaky Sunday sesh – Save your cash and BYO your picnic to the Sunday Social on the Green at Southbank. Gather your friends and enjoy the sunshine and live music at the grassy patch from 2-5pm! – Find out more
- Are you a Christmas fiend? – Victoria Park is getting festive with a Christmas themed mini golf course during November and December. Now that’s a hole in one! – Find out more
- Visit Australia Zoo – If you are looking for an Aussie experience, you can’t get more Aussie than visiting Australia Zoo, home of the late Steve Irwin – find out more
- Learn about indigenous culture at North Stradbroke Island – Only a short ferry ride from Cleveland you can join a Quandamooka guide and hear sacred, untold dreaming stories, identify bush tucker plants and learn about medicinal bush plants and trees – Find out more
- Eat all the food – are you a food lover? Eat Street is always a favourite, or discover some cheap eats that are good for the student budget. Nom nom – find out more
- Take a mini break on an island – You can feel like you are on a holiday escape any day of the week in QLD. If you haven’t already, throw in a sneaky island vacay at Moreton Island, Bribie Island and North Stradbroke Island.
- Play tourist in Brisbane – If you are relatively new to Brisbane then get into tourist mode and go exploring. Here are some places you can visit and relax – find out more
- Do stuff for free! – Let’s face it, you’re a student and the funds are generally low. Good news! You can still do a whole heap of stuff for free this summer – find out more
- Skip into Christmas! - Christmas is just around the corner and Brisbane likes to show off a bit during this time. Head off to River Stage for the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols. Brisbane City Council also have a great free Christmas program that will be released soon. Visit their website to keep up to date.
Don’t forget UQ will run as usual over the summer break but some shops and stalls may have reduced hours. Student Services will continue to operate but will be closed from 25 December to 1 January. Emergency, Security and the 24 hour Crisis line will continue to operate as usual.
