Pagoda Projects develop, supports and facilitates international internships via their own in-country teams on behalf of partners in the tertiary education sector.  Our in-person, online and blended programmes enhance student experiences, broaden curriculums, widen participation, achieve key student outcomes.   

All participants will benefit from hands-on experience, with outcomes that can be clearly articulated to future employers.  

Develop a range of skills associated with employability via Pagoda’s 8 Competencies for career readiness (Leadership, Critical Thinking, Career Development, Digital Fluency, Teamwork and Collaboration, Communication, Intercultural Fluency, Professionalism).

Sustainable Global Experience (SGE) Online  SGE Online is a 5-day sustainable development study programme.

This program includes: 
Group Orientations, Activities, and Introductions: This session allows participants to get acquainted with each other and the program structure. 

Carbon Literacy Training
This training is developed by academics at Manchester Metropolitan University (UK) and the University of Queensland (Australia). It’s accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project and delivered by Pagoda Projects’ certified Carbon Literacy Facilitators. Key topics include:
- The Definition of Greenhouse Gases 
- International Carbon Footprints
- International Vulnerability to Climate Change
- The Carbon Footprint of Food & Travel
- The Urgency to Taking Action on Climate Change
- Spheres of Influence
- Communicating (Climate) Change
- Energy Behaviours & Carbon Savings
- Imagining a Zero Carbon World
- The Role of Education in Delivering Zero Carbon

Online Activities
Students participate in a series of online activities and discussions relating to the programme’s SDGs. Through webinars, workshops and group projects and presentations, they’ll explore global issues relating to climate change and carbon reduction. Example activities include:
- Group orientations, activities and introductions
- Webinars with industry professionals on sustainability issues 
- Workshops on Climate Change and the Theory of Change
- Online skills courses to boost employability and competency
- EBL group projects and online presentation sessions
- Live online events and networking opportunities

Application Instructions

All applicants must meet the UQ Internship Eligibility Criteria and any other criteria as outlined by the host organisation. Students are required to apply to both UQ and Pagoda Projects via the buttons below.

Students will receive access to their Internships Workflow once their application is approved by the Internships and Global Experiences Team.

Cost

The program fee for in-person internship is from AUD $4,000 - $5,800 depending on the type of internship and program length.  UQ students may only participate in 6-10 week in-person internships.

The program fee for virtual internship (online) is from AUD $1,000 - $1,400 depending on the type of internship and program length.

The in-person program fee includes:
  • Accomodation (Private-room in shared apartment)
  • Remote and in-country support before, during and after programme
  • Full-time internship with one of our partner host companies (Approx. 35 hrs per week)
  • English-speaking supervisor
  • Pick-up and transfer to accommodation
  • Visa application letter and support (if applicable)
  • Option to join regular trips & events
  • Access to the Pagoda alumni network
The virtual (online) program fee includes:
  • Internship placement with Pagoda's trusted host company with an English-speaking supervisor
  • Access to our bespoke Pagoda Projects App
  • Cultural Mentor
  • Optional participation in live, weekly events (wellness, business and cultural)
  • Access to our 4 unique, online courses linked to Employability, Digital Competency, Cultural Fluency, Workplace Basics

Funding

Funding is not guaranteed even if all selection criteria are met. Funding should not be a factor when developing your budget and should only be considered supplementary financial support if awarded. 

Applicants will be considered for only one grant per application round.

Internships and Global Experiences Grants

When you submit your application for an internship, you are automatically considered for funding that is relevant to your nominated experience. Please refer to the Short-Term Experiences Funding page for details.

Credit for Internships

Some students may be able to receive credit towards their UQ program pending faculty approval. The Internships and Global Experiences Team is unable to provide further advice regarding internships for credit. If you are interested in seeking credit, please refer to the Credit for Internships page for more specific details.

Due to Queensland legislation, students are not permitted to undertake unpaid work (not-for-credit) for more than 30 days in a calendar year. Please take this into account when planning your internship.

OS-HELP Loan

If you participate in an internship program you may also be eligible to submit an application for an OS-HELP loan if your program is for-credit and you are enrolled as a Commonwealth-supported student.
