Full-time study load

15 credits per semester at Nagoya is equivelent to 8 UQ units. Special Research Students are required to pursue research for a minimum of 15 hours per week for an equivelence of 8 UQ units. 

Host university requirements

GPA
You will need a minimum cumulative GPA of 5.0 to study at Nagoya (TBC).

Language 

  • NUPACE requires exchange students to be proficient in either English or Japanese.
  • Japanese: Students wishing to take courses taught in Japanese will require Japanese proficiency of level N1 or higher; one of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), or the equivalent. 

Study Option:
Not applicable to this host. However, all applicants must be studying Engineering

Search the Credit Precedent Database to find courses offered by your host university that have been previously approved for credit at UQ. The database should be used as a general guide only.  
You must still check the host university course catalogue to see if courses from the Credit Precedent Database are still on offer and in the correct semester of your exchange

Accommodation

Nagoya University operates two mixed Japanese/international student dormitories, International Ohmeikan, International Residence-Daiko, and three dormitories used exclusively by international students: International Residence Higashiyama, International Residence Yamate. Unless correspondence to the contrary has been exchanged, all NUPACE students will live in one of these university dormitories, although they do not have the option of choosing in which residence they will reside. 

Cost of living

A minimum of JPY 80,000 may suffice; however, you would need to be a thrifty student. JPY 100,000 〜JPY 120,000 would allow you to socialize more. Expenses will vary according to personal taste and lifestyle. 

Financial support

A range of funding for student exchange including scholarships, grants and loans are available to UQ students.  

Eligible students at Nagoya may apply for the JASSO Scholarship.

Insurance

Students approved to participate in a Semester-based Exchange are automatically covered by UQ’s Travel Insurance for the country of their host university only.

If you plan to travel outside of your host country, you should purchase additional insurance.

Every international student who lives in Japan for over 3 months is required to enrol in the National Health Insurance (NHI) system.

Travel risk levels

The University of Queensland cannot and does not allow students to travel to any country with a risk level of 3 (Reconsider your need to travel) or above, as assessed by the Australian Government.

If a country's risk level changes to 3 or above, experiences to that country are suspended until the risk level improves.
