Join us for this online panel event during UQ’s Play Week which explores the different career pathways in sport!

Hear from elite athletes on their experiences in their respective sporting fields; how they started, their achievements and how their grit, determination and resilience has shaped the pathway for their own studies and work. The panellists will discuss the value of sporting experiences for career development. 

The panel members are professional athletes in the sporting fields of rowing, rugby, athletics, waterskiing and weightlifting. The panellists will provide insights into how their involvement in sport at an elite level has advanced their current studies and career journeys. They will discuss the skills and capabilities they’ve developed as elite athletes, how they’ve applied their experiences to their current roles and provide advice to students looking to commence a career in sport.

Richard Powell:

  • Two-time Rowing Olympian (1988, 1992)
  • Current UQ Boat Club Head Coach
  • Previous Acting CEO Qld Cricket
  • Previous President of Qld Olympic Council
  • Previous UQ Sport Board Member

Angus Scott-Young:

  • Current Queensland Reds Representative - Super Rugby Competition 
  • Completed a Bachelor of Commerce and Science at UQ

Caitlin Sargent-Jones:

  • Current Australian Athletics Representative
  • 2016 Olympian (4 x 400m relay)
  • Senior Physiotherapist
  • UQ Alumni

Jacinta Carroll:

  • World Champion Waterski Jumper
  • Competitive Weightlifter
  • Currently completing a Masters of Physiotherapy at UQ

Lakeisha (Lucky) Patterson:

  • Swimming World Champion
  • Order of Australia Medal recipient 
  • Currently completing a Bachelor of Communication at UQ
