Since opening in November 2019, the St Lucia Community garden and UQ Educational and Sensory Playground have provided beautiful spaces for students, staff and local community members to meet, learn and grow.

St Lucia Community garden

The St Lucia community garden was designed a place for students, staff and community members to come together to garden, prepare and cook freshly harvested produce, learn and relax outdoors. This accessible, multifunctional outdoor classroom hosts workshops and activities, as well as offering opportunities for members of our UQ community to volunteer and socialise.

UQ Educational and Sensory Playground

The UQ Educational and Sensory Playground is a state of the art all-abilities space designed inspire toddlers and children to learn, play and interact with the world around them. Kids can enjoy the specially-designed 40-metre flying fox, sensory dome and a archaeology-themed sandpit complete with dinosaur bones, as well as the 8 different swings, including a special swing for wheelchair users. Located next to the UQ tennis courts and Upbeat Café, the Playground is made up of a range of interactive knowledge-themed zones as well as a picnic facilities and barbeque.

The community garden and playground are in two separate locations at the St Lucia campus. The garden is located on the corner for Sir Fred Schonell Dr and Sir William MacGregor Dr (near the roundabout) and the playground is approximately 500m down Sir William MacGregor Drive (behind the UQ Sport basketball courts and opposite the UQ Canoe Boat Shed). Parking at UQ: Parking is free at the University on the weekend. Locations close to each site on the day are in P. 3,4,8 & 9.You can see the location of all parking zones, including spaces for persons with disability on the St Lucia car parking zones website.
