Welcome to the Community Garden and Playground at UQ!

UQ's community garden and all abilities playground is finally complete! To launch the two new projects the University is hosting a community gathering on Saturday 30 November from 8-10am. The morning will include a number of sustainability workshops and family friendly activities at the community garden site and will provide live music, face painting, food trucks and hula hoop workshops at the new playground location.

Join us for a fun, relaxed outing with friends and family and discover how you can get the best out of each space. Become a part of the garden community or discover the unique and inclusive features of the all abilities playground. UQ representatives will be there on the day to answer all your questions and show you around each of the new sites. Find out more about what to expect below.

The St Lucia community garden provides a practical way to develop a stronger connection to the food we eat and the environment we live in. The garden also promotes social interaction across generations, disciplines and cultures through gardening, healthy eating and sharing skills and knowledge. It features eight raised beds, an orchard, an outdoor kitchen and sink, BBQ ares, tool shed, compost facilities and rainwater tank. On Saturday, bring the family, meet the UQ Gardening Club, take part in compost and seed planting workshops, and learn about new sustainable practices to add to your routine.
The playground is a welcoming space that adds sustainable and multi-abilities functionality to the community. Bring the family on Saturday morning and try out the 40m zip line, sensory play spaces, 8 new swing sets and the accredited 'Changing Places' facility; all while enjoying food trucks, live music and face painting for the kids. The grounds were designed with input from representatives of: UQ Schools of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, Architecture, Mechanical and Mining Engineering, Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences; ATSIS Unit; Sustainable Minerals Institute; Property and Facilities; Occupational Health and Wellness; UQ Sport; Brisbane City Council; and children from the local community.
