Program 1: Domestic In-Person Professional Internship Program (Brisbane, Sydney)

The Professional Internship Program offers candidates an opportunity to gain professional work experience and improve career opportunities in almost all academic fields and a wide range of industries in Brisbane and Sydney.

It is aimed at candidates seeking work experience/internship positions in Australia. An internship is a great way to gain exposure into the professional work environment and develop professional workplace skills - communication, professional behavior &  knowledge, computer & technology, industry-specific skills, project-related skills & employability-enhancing activities.

Program 2: Domestic In-Person STEM Internship Program (Brisbane, Sydney)

The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Internship Program offers candidates an opportunity to gain professional work experience within these specialised fields. This program is designed for students and recent graduates, who want to further develop their skills and knowledge in professional working in Brisbane and Sydney.

It is aimed at candidates seeking work experience/internship positions in Australia. An internship is a great way to gain exposure into the professional work environment and develop professional workplace skills - communication, professional behavior &  knowledge, computer & technology, industry-specific skills, project-related skills & employability-enhancing activities.

Program 3: Global In-Person Professional Internship Program (Fiji)

Application Instructions

All applicants must meet the UQ Internship Eligibility Criteria and any other criteria as outlined by the host organisation. Students are required to apply to both UQ and Australian Internships via the buttons below.

Students will receive access to their Internships Workflow once their application is approved by the Internships and Global Experiences Team.

Costs 

The Domestic program fee is approximately AUD $2,700 - $3,178 depending on internship length and location. More information on what is included in the program fee can be found on the host program website.

The Pacific Internship Project - Internships in Fiji  fee is approximately AUD$2,570 More information on what is included in the program fee can be found on the host program website

This cost includes:

Domestic:

  • Orientation sessions – An introduction to Australian workplace culture
  • Regular career and soft skill related webinars / training sessions
  • Safety Packs are given to all interns prior to holiday periods with valuable information on safe options for travel, swimming, driving, fires etc. Copies available upon request.
  • Monthly Newsletters – Every month an Intern Newsletter is sent out keeping interns up-to-date with local events with relevant program information. Partner Newsletters and Host Organisation Newsletters are also distributed quarterly.
  • Intern Tips – Intern Tips are provided to interns on a regular basis with information on how to get the best out of the internship program and furtherdevelop skills in the Australian workplace
  • Emergency Support – Australian Internships provides a support line for emergencies that may arise outside of office hours.

Global - Fiji:

  • Orientation sessions – An introduction to Fijian workplace culture.                                           
  • A “buddy system” for candidates completing their internship in Fiji whereby students and graduates will be paired with Fijian USP students.   
  • Extensive cultural and team building activities - sports, visits, community outreach, focus groups.
  • Regular career and soft skill related webinars / training sessions.
  • Safety Packs are given to all interns prior to holiday periods with valuable information on safe options for travel, swimming, driving, fires etc. Copies available upon request.
  • Monthly Newsletters – Every month an Intern Newsletter is sent out keeping interns up-to-date with local events with relevant program information. Partner Newsletters and Host Organisation Newsletters are also distributed quarterly.

Accommodation

  • Fiji - Housing at the USP campus subject to availability. Fees apply.

Funding

Funding is not guaranteed even if all selection criteria are met. Funding should not be a factor when developing your budget and should only be considered supplementary financial support if awarded. 

Applicants will be considered for only one grant per application round.

Internships and Global Experiences Grants

When you submit your application for an internship, you are automatically considered for funding that is relevant to your nominated experience. Please refer to the Short-Term Experiences Funding page for details.

Credit for Internships

Some students may be able to receive credit towards their UQ program pending faculty approval. The Global Experiences Team is unable to provide further advice regarding internships for credit. If you are interested in seeking credit, please refer to the Credit for Internships page for more specific details

Maximum: 12 weeks

Due to Queensland legislation, students are not permitted to undertake unpaid work (not-for-credit) for more than 30 days in a calendar year. Please take this into account when planning your internship.

OS-HELP Loan

If you participate in an internship program you may also be eligible to submit an application for an OS-HELP loan if your program is for-credit and you are enrolled as a Commonwealth-supported student.
