What can I participate in?

Program 1: Domestic In-Person Professional Internship Program

The Professional Internship Program offers candidates an opportunity to gain professional work experience and improve career opportunities in almost all academic fields and a wide range of industries in Brisbane.

Program 2: Domestic Virtual Professional Internship Program

The Virtual Internship Program offers students and young professionals an opportunity to gain work experience within an Australian company in a remote professional setting under the supervision of a mentor. Interns get involved in real projects as assigned by the host organisation, in different fields and industries. A virtual internship is a great way to start your career,  improve your skills, be involved in real projects and receive mentorship from experienced professionals all with flexible hours.

Application Instructions

All applicants must meet the UQ Internship Eligibility Criteria and any other criteria as outlined by the host organisation. Students are required to apply to both UQ and Australian Internships via the buttons below.

Costs & Inclusions

The program fee is between AUD $1650 - $2108 depending on the internship mode, length and field. This includes an application fee of approximately AUD $500. 

This cost includes:

  • Application Fee
  • Insurance
  • Orientation sessions – An introduction to Australian workplace culture
  • Emergency Support – Australian Internships provides a support line for emergencies that may arise outside of office hours
  • Regular career and soft skill-related webinars/training sessions
  • Safety Packs are given to all interns prior to holiday periods with valuable information on safe options for travel, swimming, driving, fires etc. 
  • Monthly Newsletters – Every month an Intern Newsletter is sent out to keep interns up-to-date with local events with relevant program information
  • Intern Tips – Intern Tips are provided to interns on a regular basis with information on how to get the best out of the internship program and further develop skills in the Australian workplace

Funding

Funding is not guaranteed even if all selection criteria are met. Funding should not be a factor when developing your budget and should only be considered supplementary financial support if awarded. 

Applicants will be considered for only one grant per application round.

Internships and Global Experiences Grants

When you submit your application for an internship, you are automatically considered for funding that is relevant to your nominated experience. Please refer to the Short-Term Experiences Funding page for details.

Credit for Internships

Some students may be able to receive credit towards their UQ program pending faculty approval. The Global Experiences Team is unable to provide further advice regarding internships for credit. If you are interested in seeking credit, please refer to the Credit for Internships page for more specific details
