Margarita - Aalto University School of Business - Digital Business Master Class

Master of Business Administration
July 2018

Why did you decide to complete a short term experience?

I wanted to complete a short-term experience as it was an opportunity to do a subject overseas, get an international experience and learn from the Finnish who are leading the space in digital and innovation. As an MBA student and working full-time, the short term experience fit in perfectly into my schedule; I wouldn't have been able to do a full semester.

How has the experience changed you?

The exchange was one of the most incredible educational experiences I've had to date. Aalto University's approach to digital business is extremely progressive and deeply driven by their strong industry ties and passion for solving existing business problems.

Favourite memory

The course included two company visits to Accenture Finland and Solita. It was fascinating to gain a deeper understanding from a technology and design consultancy perspective and get exposure to the Nordic approach to digital transformation.

Top tips

I would highly recommend the Aalto University Digital Business Master Class exchange program! I would recommend students use the Helsinki bikes to get around as it's the best way to see the city, and that they come with an open mind and interest to meet and network with other participants.

Funding

I received a $1,000 travel grant from UQ.

Feedback

Being able to be in a university environment with both international and local lecturers talking about major digital business opportunities around big data, Internet of Things, digital transformation, virtual and augmented reality and digitisation wasn't something I ever thought I'd get to experience out of an MBA program. Aalto University's approach to the digital business master class is very unique, and having guest lecturers with different backgrounds and experiences was a very enriching and engaging way to cover a range of topics available.
