My experience
The experience opened me up to the idea that travel is a very viable and exciting option for my future in engineering. During the summit, we learnt about development, human centred design, sustainable design as well as appropriate technology and how it can be applied to developing communities.
We learnt about the Humanitarian design process with an emphasis on the first two stages: discover and empathise. We learnt not to jump to solutions and to be patient in the process and how important it was to step back, listen and not impose any cultural bias.
I found it quite challenging as it was very different to what we learn in university, but learnt a huge variety of life skills as well as cross cultural skills in communication and design. It was a once in a lifetime experience and I definitely recommend to give it a go!
