Motivation
I had a keen interest in European Politics and Economics and this program provided the perfect exchange for the summer break that was quick, interesting and challenging, allowing me to get the 'exchange-experience' without being away for a whole semester or a greater period of time.
Personal Development
This experience has made me a more well-rounded and confident version of myself. I feel more independent, self-sufficient and capable of making friends wherever I go. I am very grateful for the support Eberhard Karls Universitat Tubingen provided, the fantastic lecturers and course coordinators and the experience as a whole.
Academic Development
This experience academically was extremely beneficial. The excursions embedded in the course allowed me to visit the European Parliament and listen to it sitting, as well as the European Bank. In-person experiences like this added a lot to my overall learning. The courses themselves were very well-taught and engaging, allowing everyone in the class to share their thoughts and learn from each other. I enjoyed learning with students from other nationalities as they provided different perspectives on alternative political systems. Some challenges were balancing my social life with the course content and other organises activities, but I found that this was manageable and the university was very supportive.
Advice/Top Tips
To go into the experience with an open mind, to try everything and to engage in the classes as this is the best way to learn in a new environment.
Highlight
I have many highlights from the experience. The excursions to the European Parliament and European Bank were fantastic, as well as the intercultural evening and pretzel making class. I also love all of the friends and connections I made while in Germany, the buddy program was very well organised. Because of this, I feel like I had an authentic experience of what it is like to be a student in Germany. The food was delicious, the people were friendly, the town was safe and I cannot wait to go back again to visit (hopefully) soon.
