GCH Learning Experience and Academic Placement Program

The Gold Coast Health Learning Experience and Academic Placement (GCH LEAP) program is a partnership between Gold Coast Health and tertiary institutions, including The University of Queensland, that enables students to gain meaningful non-clinical work experience through structured internship placements.
 
 

Gold Coast Health now runs the GCH LEAP program with two intakes per year, designed to support experiential learning and professional development. Each intake typically involves a non-clinical placement of one day per week for 12 weeks.

  • Intake 1: March to May
  • Intake 2: September to December

Depending on the student’s UQ enrolment and program rules, the placement may be classified as a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) placement or as Work Experience.

Before commencing the placement, students are required to complete a Gold Coast Health Work Experience Agreement (WEA), which has been reviewed and endorsed by UQ Legal Services.

For more information on the Queensland Public Service Code of Conduct 2011, please click here. Students are encouraged to seek independent legal advice if needed. Support may be available through the UQ Union, an independent advisor, or legal counsel.

 

Students should review the role descriptions carefully, note that 2026 Intake 1 applications close on 5 January 2026, and ensure all required documents are submitted before this deadline.
