UQ Students are able to take courses only from departments within the College of Arts and Sciences during Session 2. More information regarding specific courses available can be found on the host university website. Past course syllabi can be found online

Credit equivalent 

3 credits = 2 UQ Units. Maximum of 4 UQ Units if 6 credits are successfully completed (pending UQ faculty approval). Please note that as per US visa requirements, students must take a minimum of 4 credits, as a result, most students will take a total of 2 courses while on this program.

Eligibility and application

All applicants must meet the UQ short-term experience eligibility criteria and the UNC entry requirements. This is a competitive program and students must obtain credit in order to participate in this program. Students will be selected via an internal UQ selection committee.

This program impacts on UQ semester 2 dates. UQ students must meet the additional special conditions for programs that impact on teaching dates.

Apply to UQ Abroad

Successful applicants will be nominated to UNC by UQ after the selection committee meeting following the application deadline. Following your nomination, you may be required to submit additional application information directly to the host university. 


Tuition is paid to UQ. Addtional program fees, including accommodation, are paid directly to UNC. More information regarding program fees can be found on the host university website

Applicants may also be eligible for UQ-specific funding. Applicants will be notified by mid-May if they are eligible for travel grants and scholarships awarded by the Global Experiences Team. Please do not rely on this funding to support your global experience.

Global Experiences Information Sessions

Students are encouraged to register and attend an information session to receive more details on the short-term application process, eligibility criteria, funding etc.
