Step into the world of international decision‑making with United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)- UN Immersion Program offers an immersive multilateralism program — a United Nations‑run initiative offering an intensive, multi‑day workshop in four global hubs: Geneva, Switzerland; New York, USA; The Hague, the Netherlands; and Vienna, Austria.
Designed to bring the mechanics of global cooperation to life, each workshop blends dynamic sessions with hands‑on activities that help students understand how international institutions function in practice.
Participants build key skills in negotiation, strategic communication, and cross‑cultural diplomacy while engaging directly with professionals working across the UN system. These interactions open doors to mentorship, career insights, and a deeper understanding of what it means to contribute meaningfully to global dialogue.
For students eager to address pressing international challenges and develop the capabilities to make real impact, this program offers a powerful entry point into the world of multilateral affairs.

1) Students should apply to the UNITAR- UN Immersion Programs directly- each immersion program will have their own Registration.

To Apply to UQ:
Once you have been accepted to the Westpac Australia-Asia Fellowship 2026, complete the Global Enrichment Experiences application (link below) and include the following submission documents:
- UQ studies report (downloaded from mySI-net).
Master's students in their first semester can provide their undergraduate transcripts.
UQ applications will only be accepted through the submission link below.

Experience Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to participate in this global enrichment experience, you must:
- be a current:
- Advanced-level undergraduate student (third year or higher)
- Graduate student (Master)
- PHD candidates
- Show a genuine interest in finding solutions for the climate crisis
- be aged 18+
- be selected by UQ and nominated
- not due to graduate before the completion of the experience
- agree to UQ's Global Experiences Terms and Conditions
Exams and assessments
It is your responsibility to ensure that participation in a Global Enrichment Experience does not impact your exams or assessments at UQ. Please be aware that you may not be eligible for deferred or supplementary exams or assessments if there is a conflict.
Costs and Accommodation
The UN Immersion program is valued at $3,350 AUD ($2,300 USD) which includes:

• Welcome dinner for Geneva and New York
Additional fees may incur some minor expenses relating to travel and other incidentals, such as vaccinations (if required), passport or visa costs, and discretionary spending.
Students will be covered by UQ's Corporate Travel Insurance for the duration of the experience. If you plan to travel for a longer duration that the experience covers, or outside the country of the experience, you are liable for the cost of additional travel and health insurance.

It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct visas for the countries where you will be undertaking your experience. As the Global Experiences team is not a visa-issuing authority we cannot provide visa advice.

OS-HELP Loan
If you participate in a short-term program, you may also be eligible to submit an application for an OS-HELP loan if your program is for-credit and you are enrolled as a Commonwealth-supported student.
Application Deadlines
OS-HELP loan applications open on 5 January each year.
OS-HELP loan applications can’t be accepted:
- any earlier than 6 months before the official start date of your overseas study
- any later than 3 months before the official end date of your overseas study.
