Shi Pui - AIM Overseas Cambridge Interdisciplinary Program

Bachelor of Journalism
July 2018

My experience

I studied International Politics in a Global Age at the Cambridge University, as I mainly chose to do International Relations electives within my Journalism degree. Studying at Cambridge was an incredible experience; the calibre of my peers, the diversity of ideas and culture they represent, as well as the incredible depth of knowledge of my professors motivated me to challenge my approach to and engagement with learning, and the world around me.

How has the experience changed you?

The people I met were amazing, and honestly a source of learning for me personally and professionally. Even those who had drastically different political or social ideologies from mine, we were able to have intelligent and respectful conversations and debate rather than petty, emotional bickering.

Favourite memory

Watching the World Cup at the pub when England lost to Croatia.

Top tips

Go with an open mind, and be prepared to be utterly humbled by the level of intelligence and sophistication of your peers. And stuff yourself silly with black pudding for breakfast.

I was fortunate enough to receive a travel grant from UQ as well as an OS Help Loan, which covered the cost of my programme. I also had a bit of savings that went towards flights, and travelling in Europe for three weeks before the programme commenced.
