In terms of professional development, this course instilled the importance of communication, especially with those for whom English is not their first language.
Budget
The experience was fairly expensive due to two factors:
- all time low exchange rate with the Euro
- low supply of flights to Europe
The course fees were actually quite reasonable.
Cost breakdown is as follows:
- Return flights to Helsinki: $3200 (yes, this is economy)
- Accomodation: $2,000
- Course Fees: $2,500
- Food/Other: $1,200
The used the funding to offset the costs outlined above.
Advice/Top Tips
Leave plenty of contingency in place for variable costs such as food and entertainment - these tend to lack the certainty associated with more fixed costs such as accommodation and university fees.
