Natalie - AIM Overseas Intensive Spanish and Culture in Granada (July)

B Arts
July 2019

My experience

I decided to complete this short term experience because i wanted to improve my spanish language skills and had previously visited Granada and knew that i would love to return and explore the city and culture further.

How has the experience changed you?

Academically, i have improved my spanish language skills immensely as i was living with a spanish family during the month i was there and the course provided at the university of granada was very comprehensive and well organised. I have also gained invaluable personal experiences from living with a spanish family and experiencing their culture to the fullest. This experience will also help me professionally as language proficiency is highly desirable in the field i wish to enter into.

Favourite memory

My favourite memory was seeing a flamenco show which also included a workshop at the end where the dancer taught the audience some steps. Afterwards, a group of us from the university went to get tapas for dinner so it was a very enjoyable cultural evening!

Top tips

Although the program name has 'intensive' in its name, the assessment items were not very stressful and do not require heaps and heaps of study. So i suggest taking some trips on the weekends to explore more of the country! Also, if your classes only go until 1 like mine did, use the afternoon to really get to know the city you are living in and go to as many restaurants as possible because the food is amazing!
