1. Stressed?

Balancing study, social life, work, and your general wellbeing can be hard at times. Stress can be a motivator, but too much can become distressed and hinder your progress. Many students may be feeling the pressure of your studies, so here some top tips for dealing with stress:

  1. Small goals! Break down your tasks in manageable small lists. Think of your studies as a puzzle, you need can’t complete it all at once, you need to break down into piece by piece.

  2. Get moving! Did you know that exercise (any type!) has been proven to reduce stress, boost memory, prevent illness and increase your mood? Great creative, click here for fun little video with 5 tips to get moving and boost your mood! UQ Sport welcomes students to free rec sports every week.

  3. Practice mindfulness. Mindfulness is a powerful tool that will help your brain to slow down and think clearly when you're feeling stressed, anxious or overwhelmed. It is a practice that can help you develop better control over attention and a feeling of calm presence in your busy life. UQ offer beginners welcome courses:
    • Mindfulness Meditation a seated practice with guided instructions for various topics to support greater psychological resilience to stress, improve concentration and well-being.
    • Mindfulness Yoga which integrates the practices of mindful movement with meditation to train attention in present-moment body awareness and includes breathing techniques to cultivate calm, and to support a self-care routine.

  4. Seek help. Visit and chat with Student Services – who can help with study tips, managing your mood or simply just provide practical advice on different areas.
