The International Summer University (ISU) Frankfurt is a four-week summer school specially designed for international students.

Every year, students from around the world come to Frankfurt to participate in our academic courses and learn about current financial and political topics in Germany and Europe. The summer university combines academic courses taught in English, intensive German language courses, and a fun cultural and social program.

Credit Equivalent 

One module = 2 UQ Units. Maximum of 4 UQ Units if two modules are successfully completed (pending UQ faculty approval).

Visa Information

It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct visa for the country where you will be studying. As UQ Abroad is not a visa-issuing authority we cannot provide visa advice.

Eligibility and Application

All applicants must meet the UQ short-term experience eligibility criteria. This is a competitive program and students must obtain credit in order to participate in this program. Students will be selected via an internal UQ Abroad selection committee, as well as an internal Hessen evaluation. 

Applicants must complete the UQ Abroad online application and provide their completed Hessen Application with the following attachments:

  • Motivation Letter
  • Resume or CV

This program impacts on UQ semester 2 dates. UQ students must meet the additional special conditions for programs that impact on teaching dates.

Apply to UQ Abroad

Successful applicants will be nominated to the Hessen State Government by UQ after the selection committee meeting following the application deadline. Following your nomination, you may be required to submit additional application information directly to the host university. 


Tuition is paid to UQ. Other program fees are paid to the host.

The Hessen State Government is providing a scholarship to selected Queensland students to waive the cost of the program fees and accommodation. Selected students are responsible for paying for their flights, visas and associated living costs. A limited number of full program scholarships are available. Students will be notified if they are awarded a program scholarship after application. 

Applicants may also be eligible for UQ-specific funding. Applicants will be notified by mid-May if they are eligible for travel grants and scholarships awarded by the Global Experiences Team. Please do not rely on this funding to support your global experience.


Accommodation is arranged as part of the program. More information regarding accommodation can be found on the host university website.
