Open: 24 April (for Semester 1 of the following year)

Full-time study load

Undergraduate: 4 units (14 semester hours) per semester is equivalent to 8 UQ units.
Law Students: 12 semester hours per semester is equivalent to 8 UQ units.
* Law is a graduate-level course in the USA, hence students are expected to complete 12 semester hours.

Host university requirements

GPA

  • You will need a minimum cumulative GPA of 5 to study at UR.
  • Law students need a minimum cumulative GPA of 5.5 to study at UR.

Accommodation

All exchange students are required to live on-campus during their exchange program at UR. After applying for housing, students will be assigned a room either in Residence Halls or University Apartments. Housing will be assigned based on roommate compatibility. UR provides information about the on-campus housing options for exchange students.

Cost of living

UR provides an outline of the estimated cost of attendance for exchange students studying in Richmond. Keep in mind that exchange students do not pay tuition to their host university . The university also provides an estimated cost of attendance specific to law students at UR.

Additional Mandatory Fees

The University of Richmond has additional mandatory fees which are outlined on the estimated cost of attendance page. These fees cannot not be waived. The Immunization Requirements fee is subjects to the student's past immunizations

Note: In addition to the above, UR has a mandatory J-1 student visa fee. This fee cannot be waived.

Financial support

A range of funding for student exchange including scholarships, grants and loans are available to UQ students.  

Insurance

Students approved to participate in a Semester-based Exchange are automatically covered by UQ’s Travel Insurance for the country of their host university only.

If you plan to travel outside of your host country, you should purchase additional insurance.

All exchange students are required to purchase UR's mandatory health insurance plan. Exchange students are not eligible to waive this requirement. The cost of insurance at URichmond can be found on the URichmond Fact Sheet (see overview tab).

Organise your visa

It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct visa for the country where you will be studying. As the Global Experiences team is not a visa-issuing authority we cannot provide visa advice.

Travel risk levels

The University of Queensland cannot and does not allow students to travel to any country with a risk level of 3 (Reconsider your need to travel) or above, as assessed by the Australian Government.

If a country's risk level changes to 3 or above, experiences to that country are suspended until the risk level improves.
