Full-time study load
Undergraduates: 18 credits per semester at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is equivalent to 8 UQ units.
Postgraduates: 15 credits per semester at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is equivalent to 8 UQ units.
Host university requirements
GPA
You will need a minimum cumulative GPA of 4.5 to study at IIT Delhi.
Study Options
Not applicable to this university. You can choose courses from any of the disciplines available to exchange students, as long as you meet the course prerequisites.
Other Requirements
- Course Flexibility: You must have a full study load of UQ general electives if you wish to study at IITD (and not plan to take disciplines related to your UQ program) due to course profile access restrictions.
- Course Profiles: IITD does not provide course profiles before student registration.
- Nationality: Study Abroad applicants at IITD must be non-Indian citizens/passport holders.
- Study Abroad: Study Abroad at IITD is only available in study abroad mode (fee-paying). See the Accommodations and Costs tab for more details.

The exact list of courses being offered each semester will be released approximately 2 months before the semester starts. Students should use the prior year's list as a guide.
Crosscheck the courses you found in the host course catalogue with the Credit Precedent Database to see if UQ credit has previously been granted. The database should be used as a general guide only. Few courses from each host will be in the database and many course precedents in the database may have expired. Note, the credit precedent database does not replace the host course catalogue. If a course is not listed in the CPD, you can still ask for it to be assessed on your study plan.

Accommodation
Accommodation for exchange students is subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed. Depending on, there maybe accommodation availabity through the IITD Hostel Accommodation. IIT Delhi hostels are student residence halls located on campus and are not similar to backpacker hostels. Students are generally accommodated in single or shared rooms and have access to common facilities such as dining halls, study areas, and recreational facilities. If a hostel room is not available, availability of alternative accommodation, such as suite rooms within the IIT Delhi campus will be offered subject availability.
Students are encouraged to explore accommodation options early and review the application process, facilities, and associated fees in advance.
Cost of living
India is generally an affordable country for students, and compared to many other major cities, Delhi offers a relatively low cost of living. Students can enjoy good‑quality healthcare, a wide variety of food options, cultural experiences, and entertainment at reasonable prices. Getting around the city is easy and budget‑friendly, with the Delhi Metro providing a fast and convenient way to travel, complemented by an extensive and inexpensive bus network operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

Tuition
Semester-based study with IITD is only available as study abroad mode. This means you pay your tuition to IITD directly and do not pay tuition to UQ. Refer to the Visiting Student brochure for detailed fee information.

Financial support
NCP Semester Grant: A limited number of NCP Semester Grants of AUD$15,000 are available for eligible students participating in the Study Abroad opportunity in Semester 1 or 2, 2027, or Semester 1, 2028.
A range of funding for student exchange including scholarships, grants and loans are available to UQ students.
Insurance
Students approved to participate in a Semester-based Exchange are automatically covered by UQ’s Travel Insurance for the country of their host university only.

If you plan to travel outside of your host country, you should purchase additional insurance.
All students can avail free treatment and medicines from the IIT Hospital. Students are required to carry a health insurance for Rs 100,000 to cover cost of treatments and procedures which cannot be provided at the IIT hospital.

Organise your visa
It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct visa for the country where you will be studying. As the Global Experiences team is not a visa-issuing authority we cannot provide visa advice.
It is mandatory for all foreign students seeking admission to IIT Delhi to register on the Study in India Poratal prior to applying for a student visa. Please see IIT Delhi Student Visa information website for more inforamtion.

Travel risk levels
The University of Queensland cannot and does not allow students to travel to any country with a risk level of 3 (Reconsider your need to travel) or above, as assessed by the Australian Government.
If a country's risk level changes to 3 or above, experiences to that country are suspended until the risk level improves.
