Charles University was founded in 1348, making it one of the oldest universities in the world! Today, CU is a world-class institution of higher education, the largest and most renowned Czech university. It is a multi-disciplinary, research-oriented and outward-looking institution, located in the heart of Prague.

The Vlatva river is the soul of Prague. The embankment is a popular part of community life, with markets, sports and exhibitions taking place there throughout the summer. Take a stroll over one of the 30 bridges spanning the river and look out at the thousand spires dotting the city’s skyline.

Full-time study load

30 ECTS credits per semester at Charles University is equivalent to 8 UQ units.

Host university requirements

GPA
You will need a minimum cumulative GPA of 4.5 to study at Charles Uni.

Study Options

You must choose one admission faculty from the list of faculties below and take the majority (60%) of courses within the chosen faculty. Further details are outlined in the Additional Academic Information section below.

Other Restrictions
Undergraduate students must enrol in at least four courses.
Graduate students must enrol in at least three courses.

Accommodation

Accommodation is provided in the University's Halls of Residence. Students are housed in double-occupancy rooms. Single rooms are generally not available.

Cost of living

Study in Prague provides a list of estimated basic expenses associated with living and studying in Prague.

Financial support

A range of funding for student exchange including scholarships, grants and loans are available to UQ students.  

An accommodation scholarship (Erasmus Accommodation Grant) may be awarded as a contribution to the costs of housing during university studies.

Insurance

Students approved to participate in a Semester-based Exchange are automatically covered by UQ’s Travel Insurance for the country of their host university only.

If you plan to travel outside of your host country, you should purchase additional insurance.

Non-EU students should ensure that they have private medical insurance or they must expect to pay cash for all medical care. More information can be found on page 43 of the Charles University - Guide for International Students. It is important to contact a medical institution, such as a doctor, dentist or a hospital that has a contract with Czech public health insurance system.

Organise your visa

It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct visa for the country where you will be studying. As the Global Experiences team is not a visa-issuing authority we cannot provide visa advice.

Charles University provides visa and health insurance informatation for incoming exchange students.

Study in Prague also provides visa and immigration information for incoming exchange students.

Travel risk levels

The University of Queensland cannot and does not allow students to travel to any country with a risk level of 3 (Reconsider your need to travel) or above, as assessed by the Australian Government.

If a country's risk level changes to 3 or above, experiences to that country are suspended until the risk level improves.
