The Global Student has developed the Remote Global Internship program that allows students to gain an understanding of Asian workplace culture, together with an overview of their respective industries on a global scale, all without leaving home. Interns are provided preparatory program information, an orientation to language and culture, and ongoing cultural and soft skills development via online support throughout the program to ensure they gain the most out of the experience.

The Global Student offers a range of virtual internship opportunities over a wide array of sectors across Malaysia and Vietnam  in the following fields:

  • Engineering, Science
  • Law
  • Design

Application Instructions

All applicants must meet the UQ Internship Eligibility Criteria and any other criteria as outlined by the host organisation. Students are required to apply to both UQ and the Global Student via the buttons below.

  1. Submit an application to the Internships and Global Experiences Team and
  2. Submit an application to the Global Student

Students will receive access to their Internships Workflow once their application is approved by the Internships and Global Experiences Team.

Program fees are approximately AUD $1,550 - $2,250 depending on internship length and location.

The program fee includes:

  • Placement to a full time (40 hours per week) remote internship
  • Pre-departure
  • Follow-up sessions with students getting together to share experiences and also doing the SEAL exercise
  • Ongoing cultural and soft skills development via online support throughout the program
  • Language and culture classes
  • Online webinars and online networking events
  • On-demand support


Funding is not guaranteed even if all selection criteria are met. Funding should not be a factor when developing your budget and should only be considered supplementary financial support if awarded. 

Applicants will be considered for only one grant per application round.

Widening Participation Grant

When you submit your application for an internship, you are automatically considered for funding that is relevant to your nominated experience. Please refer to the Short-Term Experiences Funding page for details.

Credit for Internships

Some students may be able to receive credit towards their UQ program pending faculty approval. The Global Experiences Team is unable to provide further advice regarding internships for credit.
