The Summer Research Program provides UQ students with an opportunity to gain research experience working alongside some of the university’s leading academics and researchers.

All Summer Research scholars are eligible to apply for a scholarship for the duration of their research (between 6-10 weeks).

1. Check your eligibility

The UQ Summer Research Program is open to undergraduate (including honours) or masters by coursework students, if you are:

  • Currently enrolled at UQ at the time of application;
  • Have completed at least one year of study at the time of application;
  • Are studying for a degree relevant to the research discipline; and
  • Have a high level of academic achievement during their undergraduate degree.

All Summer Research placements are awarded competitively, and role allocation is decided by the Faculty, School, Research Centre or Institute where the research is undertaken. All students must submit an application.

Summer Research Scholars will receive a Summer Research Grant equivalent to $300 per week. The period of eligibility for scholarship payments is up to 10 weeks, generally commencing in mid-November and concluding in mid-February. The funding is not normally paid during periods away from the University, such as during the Christmas break.

Summer Research Scholarships are awarded based on academic merit, motivation for participation in the program, and the enrolling units nomination. To be eligible for the grant scholars will need to meet the following conditions:

  • Participate in the program between mid-November to mid-February
  • Participate in program for 6 weeks or more
  • Commit a minimum of 20 hours per week

Please refer to the full eligibility in the UQ Summer Research Guidelines. Please note that these guidelines are subject to change.
