Develop your analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills with a research experience.

The Summer and Winter Research Programs provide students with an opportunity to gain research experience working alongside some of the university’s leading academics and researchers.

Research projects are usually available in many disciplines for 4-5 weeks over the winter vacation period (June to July) or six to ten (6-10) weeks over the summer vacation period (November - February).

All successful Research Scholars will receive a scholarship for the duration of their research.

1. Check your eligibility

Research programs are open to undergraduate (including honours) and masters by coursework students who:

  • Are currently enrolled at UQ at the time of application; and
  • Will maintain ongoing enrolment at UQ for the entirety of the Summer and/or Winter Research Program (graduation may affect this); and
  • Are studying for a degree relevant to the research discipline; and
  • Have a high level of academic achievement during your undergraduate degree.

All research projects are awarded competitively, and role allocation is decided by the faculty, school, research centre or institute where the research is undertaken. We strongly recommend that you contact your preferred supervisor before applying to discuss the project and ascertain if they will support your application.

All interested students must submit an application by the published closing date.

All selected research scholars will receive a scholarship for the duration of their research.

Winter Research Scholarships are valued up to $1500. Summer Research Scholars will receive a scholarship equivalent to $360 per week (paid as two lump sums during the program) for up to 10 weeks. The funding is not normally paid during periods away from the University, such as during the Christmas break.

Please refer to the full eligibility and scholarship details in the Summer/Winter Research Guidelines.  Please note that these guidelines are subject to change.
