The Universitas 21 Summer Schools for undergraduate students are an excellent way for students from all disciplines to come together to study and share ideas. The U21 Summer School is a two-week summer science program, promoting interdisciplinary learning and culture exchange.

The Summer school offers lectures, practice courses, and student research opportunities in a different topic each year.

Grants

The UQ Student Employability Centre will award up to four grants to UQ undergraduate students to participate in the event.

UQ will pay the program fee (amount TBC) which is paid directly to U21, which will cover 15 nights accommodation, conference costs and most meals.

UQ will award a travel grant (amount TBC) which is paid directly to the student, which is intended to assist with travel costs.

Participants will be covered by UQ corporate travel insurance for the duration of the program however will be required to fund any additional travel costs, as well as some of their own meals, visas, insurance for personal travel, airport transfers and personal living expenses.

Please note: While UQ will nominate up to four students to participate in the program, nomination is not a guarantee of acceptance into the program.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for the U21 Summer School, you must:

  • Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program (undergraduate or honours) at The University of Queensland and remain enrolled for the duration of the program
  • Be in at least your second year of study (ie. completed at least 6 units of credit) at the time of application, with no Academic Progression Warning(s) within the last 6 units)
  • Have a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.0
  • Complete an activity report within four weeks of completing the program
  • Be able to travel to the host location on the program dates, and be able to coordinate, book, and pay for your own flights
  • Be in the position to fund some of your own meals, travel insurance for personal travel, airport transfers and personal living expenses
  • Students holding an international student visa are responsible for seeking advice and approval related to returning to their country of citizenship
  • Not be participating as a UQ exchange student in semester following the program
  • Agree to be photographed and interviewed for promotional purposes
