Gain access to Australia's politicians and learn how you can become an effective leader. 

The National Student Leadership Forum is an opportunity for the emerging generation (aged 18-26) to discuss the significance of faith and values as foundations for effective leadership. The Forum is designed as a four-day program held at the end of a sitting week in Canberra. It is made up a variety of activities beginning late Thursday morning and concluding before lunch on Sunday. Accommodation is at the Hyatt Hotel Canberra, the city’s premier hotel.

While the specific program varies from year to year, it generally includes a day spent in Parliament House, Keynote addresses from the Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition, Keynote addresses by other inspiring men and women from varying walks of life, seminar groups run by MP’s and community leaders, small group discussions, a local community service project, a sport and recreation afternoon, and an end of Forum dance night!

Grants

Each year the UQ Student Employability Centre selects up to two students to attend the NSLF and will fund their registration fee.

The grant will cover the full conference fee of $1740 per person (TBC in 2017), which includes accommodation at the Hyatt Hotel in Canberra, breakfast, and lunch each day, welcome and farewell dinners and travel insurance.

The grant does not cover the cost of transport to and from Canberra. You will be required to fund your own transport and some of your own meals and general spending money.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the National Student Leadership Forum, you must:

  • Be currently enrolled in a degree program at UQ (i.e. undergraduate, honours, graduate certificate, graduate diploma or coursework masters)
  • Be in at least your second year of study at the time of application
  • Be aged between 18 – 26 at the time of the conference
  • Be able to attend the four-day program in Canberra, organise and fund your own travel
  • Open to discuss your faith and values at the conference
  • Submit a report outlining your experiences at the National Student Leadership Forum
  • Agree to be photographed and interviewed for promotional purposes
  • Only apply for the event if your program of study allows it
  • Understand that you are responsible for your own workload, class and assessment commitments
  • Understand that you will not receive extension to assessment items (including exams) due to attendance
  • If you are successful, you will be required to seek approval from your faculty prior to accepting an offer to represent UQ at this event. Please note, faculties reserve the right to refuse requests to attend the conference if the student’s schedule does not allow it

When applications open, you will be required to submit an online application via StudentHub, responding to a number of selection criteria and upload a Resume.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an interview at the UQ Student Employability Centre.

Successful candidates will be nominated to NSLF to represent UQ.
