The Freie Universitat Berlin Winter University - Term I program is a four-week program that allows you to improve your German language skills, with a variety of language levels available and expand your knowledge and understanding of Europe.

Credit Equivalent 

4 ECTS = 2 UQ Units. Maximum of 2 UQ Units if 4 ECTS are successfully completed (pending UQ faculty approval).

Eligibility and Application

All applicants must meet the UQ short-term experience eligibility criteria and the FUBIS entry requirements.

The tuition fee is approximately $2,300 AUD. Program fees for application and excursions also apply. Discounts for early registration are available. More information regarding fees can be found on the host university website. 

Applicants may also be eligible for UQ-specific funding. Applicants will be notified by late-October if they are eligible for travel grants and scholarships awarded by the Global Experiences Team. Please do not rely on this funding to support your global experience.

Ernst-Reuter-Gesellschaft e.V. Grants (€2,700 per person) are available to FUBiS participants from Australian universities. Each scholarship covers the FUBiS program fee, tuition, accommodation in a single room of a shared apartment, excursions, health insurance and small travel allowance. Eligible students must be undergraduate students who have completed their first year by January 2019.

Applicants must: 

  • be at least 18 years old
  • be enrolled as a full-time, undergraduate student
  • have very good grades

Students who wish to be considered for the grant must submit their Scholarship Application Form with their UQ application by October 14, 2019. Successful applicants will be notified by FUBiS by early November. 


Accommodation can be arranged and is available at an additional cost. More information regarding accommodation options can be found on the host university website.
